Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) FAQ
What is MFA?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is identity verification performed by using a combination of your username, password and physical device in your possession such as your phone. By using MFA, you are protecting your personal data, as well as that of your colleagues, our guests and our Company.
How do I set up MFA?
Enroll your devices at mfa.vailresorts.com. All you need is an accessible phone – mobile or landline. Setup only takes a few minutes.
RESOURCES FOR FIRST TIME USERS - Please use these tools for help with initial setup:
Daily MFA Webinar - join our IT Support Center every Wednesday at 1 p.m. Mountain Time for live setup support. You will need a computer with audio. Click here to join the webinar Wednesdays at 1 p.m. MST
Why are we using MFA?
MFA is an important security measure:
MFA verification uses your pre-registered phone, along with your password, to confirm your identity.
If your password is stolen, cybercriminals cannot get into your account without having your registered device as well.
Will I have to go through the MFA process each time I log in to a Vail Resorts system?
Once you’re enrolled, MFA prompts are based on a risk algorithm – it might seem random. Don't worry if you get prompts often or rarely. This is a risk-based security approach that will learn your behavior over time.
How do I add authentication devices?
If you are a current user and want to add additional authentication devices, learn how here.
What happens if I break or lose my phone that I use for MFA?
We strongly suggest you set up the back-up methods of authentication (e.g. personal phone number and office phone number). You should be prompted to do so at the end of the MFA enrollment process. Please do the following:
Navigate back to mfa.vailresorts.com and log in again with your account information
On the “Additional security verification” page, check the boxes for:
Authentication Phone (choose Country Code + enter personal phone number)
Alternate Authentication Phone (choose Country Code + enter office phone number)
When entering phone numbers, use numbers only (no spaces)
If you misplace or break your mobile phone after enrolling in MFA, visit mfa.vailresorts.com.
