Hello SRS Staff!
This is a huge weekend and week for the resort. Please make sure you are ready to go and are rested, hydrated and safe! I have just a few things for you before tomorrow.
1. It’s PANCAKE BREAKFAST day tomorrow! Starting at 7:15am going until 9:30am in the Mt. Camp lunch room. My husband Michael and myself will be flipping flap jacks for the SRS Team. David Yeagle may be making an appearance as well. Please come enjoy a hot breakfast before heading to work.
2. Saturday is another Torchlight parade. Waiver & torch pick-up in the Cape House at 5:30pm and loading the Canyon lift by 5:45pm. This is for 18+ staff members only. This is the last one of the season!
3. Please check instructor.snow.com to see if you are on an 8am private lesson (all work areas-SC, MC and adults)…we’ve had a few kid’s instructors not know that they are on the schedule for the private and miss out.
4. Roller Coaster will be designated for the Ski & Ride School only for Saturday and Sunday (we will play it by ear for Monday-Friday). Please use Roller Coaster with your students. All levels are welcome to ski in Roller Coaster but it is side-to-side traffic only….no fall line fast skiing. We would like to keep this a safe learning environment for all groups.
5. It’s been warm all week—we will see a deep freeze tonight. Please be aware parking lots/sidewalks may be slick tomorrow morning. The mountain may also be firm early in the morning.
6. Toby added a ton of 8am and “after hours” training to the schedule this week. Please take a look and sign up for some training. There are many different topics including tuning, special guests, kids and tech talks!
7. Lastly, Please…please…please be SAFE out there on the mountain.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication!

Hello SRS Staff-
I have some exciting news! Please read below to see what is new….
1. We will be closing Roller Coaster to the general public to use for the Ski & Ride School only (and Adaptive) for weekends and busy holiday periods only. The best way to get there is to ride the Canyon chair up, take NE Time to Snowdance and carefully go straight across to the cut through trail that takes you through to Roller Coaster. There will be a chicane (gate) that says “Ski & Ride School Only”. You may lift the rope, let your students through and place the rope back up. This is for ALL SRS groups and is teaching terrain meant to go across the hill and learn in a safe environment (Light Green + and higher). There should be no fast fall-line skiing---that can be done outside of Roller Coaster. If you see a general public/guest who does not belong in there---please just ignore them and focus on your group. There is a pitch between Canyon towers 11 & 12---but the skiers left side is mellow for one huge turn to then traverse the trail. This is the first time that SRS has been given a trail---thanks to our Glint Survey that you all filled out, this really helped us to achieve this. It’s a “use it or lose it” loan….so please get up there an use Roller Coaster for your teaching terrain.
2. Next weekend is President’s Weekend and week-it’s all hands on deck. Please make sure you are healthy, get plenty of rest---it’s a very busy week. You are welcome to add more days to the calendar if you would like, just talk to your supervisor/manager.
3. SRS is having an open house for folks who may be interested in teaching on March 11 & March 19. This will be a time where we can ski with interested instructors age 16+ and then have a short information session to answer any questions. If you someone who is interested, please let them know. See the Spring Sampler sheet that is attached with a QR sign up code or forward them this link: https://bit.ly/MountSnowSpringSampler . We do NOT plan to hire 14-15 year olds for the 2023-24 season at this time (my choice).
4. Please make sure you take a minute to watch the “Kids On Lifts Video” to make sure you are safe while riding the chair lift with children. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS_Zj-oVLAQ
5. Toby has arranged for some PSIA certifications here at Mount Snow during the weekend of March 25-26. He will get the links to these events out soon. PSIA Level 1, Children Specialist 1 (both ski & ride), Freestyle Specialist 1 (both ski & ride). Toby will send out a link for sign-ups for these events. You must become a PSIA/AASI member to participate.
6. Doug Kaufman is arranging a PSIA update clinic for members who need credits. Please contact douglas.s.kaufman@vailresorts.com if you are interested. Cost is $220 and it is March 25-26.
7. Prize Box Question: How many kids can a ski instructor take up the chairlift? How many kids can a snowboard instructor take up a chairlift? How many kids can a general public adult take up the chairlift? The 12th person to answer this correctly may pick out of my prize box (and I just re-stocked it).
8. Please be kind to fellow co-workers & guests. Thank you.
Thank you everyone! Have a great weekend.

Hello SRS Staff,
Well, we are halfway through the winter season. Congratulations and thank you for all of your hard work. I have a couple of announcements to make, can you please take the time to read through them for me?
• Training: Mount Snow has one of the best staff training programs for the Ski & Ride School in the East (maybe the country, but I am be a little biased). Toby sends weekly emails out, but if you would like to get a look at the calendar further into the future, you may visit instructor.snow.com to view the schedule for the rest of the season. You enter your long pass number that is on your media card and use the password: $noW2223 to get in. You may also access it by going to the Mount Snow SRS webpage: mountsnowpros.com with a password: Bluebird. This is a huge benefit (free lessons with high level instructors). Please take advantage of these programs. You may view the training offerings as well as sign up ahead of time for them.
• Mount Snow Staff Town Hall (optional): If you are interested in watching the Mount Snow Town Hall on February 2, 2023 from 3pm to 4pm. There will be a chance for Q & A at the end. Follow this link: https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_Yzc0MmU3MTYtZGI2Yy00Y2ExLTkxODAtNzBhMTgyYjMxYjI3%40thread.v2/0?context=%7B%22Tid%22%3A%22e35ee0a8-6376-4761-a279-54dde1923161%22%2C%22Oid%22%3A%22b211aefb-f196-4308-81d4-41c4eb61ca2b%22%2C%22IsBroadcastMeeting%22%3Atrue%2C%22role%22%3A%22a%22%7D&btype=a&role=a
• For instructors who are in their 2nd year at Mount Snow (or longer), you may apply for a William Y Cooper grant to help you pay for PSIA/AASI educational events. If you want to go to an update clinic, get your CS1 or CS2, FS1 or FS2 and anything else…you should apply. Visit the website for more information: www.williamycooperfoundation.org to fill out a grant application. No paybacks, just a write up about your experience.
• For the 13th person to reply to my email with the correct answer, you will get to pick a prize out of my coveted prize box. What is the Responsibility Code (2022 version)?
• Tis the season for PSIA/AASI certifications. Congratulations to all of the instructors who have gone for a certification so far this season. Whether you gained a new shiny pin or not, thank you for putting yourself out there to train and learn to become a better instructor. Well done!
• February vacation, aka President’s Week. February 18-24, 2023. If you have the time to add some days to your calendar, or you need to make up some days, this would be a great time to add them. This is our third busy holiday period where we need all hands on deck. Please let your manager know if you are able to add some days to your schedule during this time.
• Mid-Season check ins. Everyone received an email about a mid-season check-in. The SRS Managers will touch base with all of the full-time staff in person and some part-time staff. If you have a desire to check in with your supervisor/manager about how the season is going for you, please contact them to make an appointment to do so.
• GLINT/Continuous Listening Survey: I received the results from the survey company that employees filled out a few weeks ago. Thank you for taking the time to fill it out. Your voices are being heard and I am doing my best to address some of the challenges mentioned such as: limited beginner terrain, difficulties with HR/IT, Staffing levels and more. There will be another survey in the coming weeks, please again….take the time to fill it out so that we can make positive changes to our programing.
Thanks again for sharing your passion with others.

Hello SRS Team,
Here we are at MLK weekend. At this time, we are sold out in all of the SRS programs. But, we will have staff in the entry way of the Discovery Center with a QR code to get onto a waiting list (no guarantees). I have a few things for you before you arrive for work tomorrow morning.
1. If you see something that is a safety hazard – Say something to someone. If you see that the sidewalk needs salt-you are welcome to salt it. The bin of salt is under the Discovery Center stairs. Or you can let your manager/supervisor know and they will call someone to take care of it.
2. Snacks-If you need to snack with your guests, all Mt. Camp/Snow Camp should go to the lower level of Discovery. Privates and adults on the main level of Discovery. Please clean up after yourself when you are finished. We are not breaking at the summit lodge with our group lessons (privates only).
3. If you need to change a schedule or call in sick….please be sure to do that with your manager or supervisor. Toby, Maureen & Shannon do not manage schedules.
4. Winner of the “Cool Cooler Raffle” is…… Julia Silverman of Snow Camp. Thank you to all of the staff who referred others to work here. Congratulations Julia!!
5. Both locker rooms have a new combination: 1972. Please do NOT share this combination with anyone and do not allow guests/family into the locker rooms.
6. Torchlight Saturday! We will be sliding down the mountain on our skis/snowboards again on Saturday night. Meet at the Cape House to sign the release form (if you have not done so already) and pick up your torches. This is a non-alcohol event and for SRS instructor staff members age 18 or older.
7. Please remember that we do NOT do refunds or vouchers. If someone has any issues, please direct them to a supervisor and the supervisor will advise the guest of what they can do if they need something or have a problem.
8. If you ordered a name tag-they are in and on the table in the Clubhouse!
9. We have a new coffee station in the Clubhouse of the Discovery Center. Please Bring your own Mug (labeled of course) to enjoy a cup-o-joe on us. Also, the Street team so nicely gave us some drinks, smoothies and muffins to enjoy this weekend. They have been dispersed into the staff areas for your enjoyment. Thank you Street Team!
10. Hopefully, everyone did the Glint Continuous listening survey. It closes tonight, so if you have not done it yet, please let your voice be heard and do the survey. It takes 5 minutes.
11. Epic Wellness month-take care of yourself both physically and mentally. Shannon McAvoy has more information if you are interested.
12. It will be a busy weekend, I recommend bringing a lunch/snacks for yourself…your choice.

Hello SRS Staff-
First of all, Happy Holidays to you and your family. Please stay safe and enjoy the time with family and friends. Please keep yourself healthy by getting plenty of sleep, eating right and drinking plenty of water. Most everyone is scheduled to work during this busy holiday week. I have a few things below, please take the time to read them.
• We will have Christmas lunch in Marketfresh for those who are working on Christmas Day. You will need to go to Marketfresh wearing your uniform and with your Employee Pass to get a free Christmas lunch. The meal options are attached.
• New Year’s Eve Torchlight: We will be doing a torchlight and fireworks on Saturday, 12/31. This is a non-alcohol sanctioned event for instructors age 18+. Please meet at the Canyon Chair to load for 5:15pm. All participants MUST have their lift pass, we are scanning to make sure everyone loading is a valid employee. We will be using light sabers instead of road flares this year---fun! There will be sign up for this.
• LIFT Training: At this point, all staff should have completed their LIFT training on-line. This is paid and required training. You find the training in your Epic Employee under “Training”. Go into “My Training” and it will show you a list of trainings that you are required to do. Best to do it all in one then submit a time card for the time (it is under 2 hours of time).
• Remember when teaching up on the mountain that there are places to teach and places not to teach. Visit our website: Mountsnowpros.com The password is Bluebird to visit Ski and Snowboard School Resources and Guidelines-page 18 for some safety tips. Please remember to do a teaching segment with your class where there is not a lot of traffic and plenty of trail width. Please have your mind/body in the moment providing good demonstrations. The trails will be busy, but there are places to hide to do a teaching segment. Remember to teach on easier terrain and move to more difficult terrain once the student has practiced it and own it.
• Supervisors and trainers will be out doing “field observations”. So, if you see someone roll into your group…it is ok. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. This will be on-going throughout the season. The goal is to catch instructors doing some good stuff out there.
• At this point, all equipment should be safety checked and will have a Vail Safety sticker for 2022-23. If you are skiing/riding without this current sticker and get injured while working, you are at risk for not being covered by worker’s compensation. Please make sure your gear is check. For rehires with same skis-go to the Disco rental shop. All snowboards-get checked at the Disco Rental Shop. For NEW hires with skis or REHIRES with new ski equipment-please go to the GRIND.
• PSIA/AASI events & certifications. For instructors here 1+ years, you are eligible to apply for a grant to attend a PSIA/AASI educational event. Here is a link to the website to apply or for more information: http://www.williamycooperfoundation.org/ This non-profit was named after an instructor who worked here and passed away. The Cooper Foundation was put together to help instructors pay for education events. If any staff member goes for a PSIA/AASI exam and pass, that event is reimbursed by Vail. You need to send Toby Burrows and email with a copy of the event receipt and your certificate….then the reimbursement will appear in the next check. If you pass a certification, you will get a raise after your reimbursement paperwork is received.
• Parking! At this point, everyone should have turned in their car information to Shannon McAvoy, so they don’t get a ticket. If you are late to the game, you may get Shannon your name, make, model, license plate# and she will ask if you can get put on the list. Until you hear from Shannon, you should park in the tiered lot or D lot to avoid getting a ticket. On the same note, if you are driving a car that you did not put on the list---you should also park in the tiered lot or D lot to avoid getting a ticket. The tiered and D lots are FREE for everyone. Parking for staff who are on the list is past the lift building only.
• Nametags are a part of our uniform. If you ordered a nametag, they are on the table in the Clubhouse. If you did not, please get that done. The QR code is located on the table with the name tags.
• By next weekend, we should have an operational coffee bar in the Clubhouse. We ask that folks BYOM (Bring Your Own Mug) to save on trash. Please just be sure to label it (and wash it on your own). The coffee is supplied by Leader led Appreciation monies—thank you Vail!
• Hats are a part of our uniform when you are not sliding. If you did not get one yet, you may see Shannon or Kit to pick yours up.
Thank you for all that you do and for sharing your passion of skiing/riding with others! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year to all.

Hello SRS Team,
I have a couple of announcements today. Sorry for the lengthy email and repeats. As new staff come on, they too need this information too. Please take a few minutes to read through, so that you are “in the know”.
We are approaching the Christmas holiday time---it is a busy week and we are sold out with some products already. If you can add some days-please do so through your manager/supervisor.
Let’s welcome the new SRS staff onto the team. If you see a new face, take the time to introduce yourself and welcome them to the team.
• Tuning and rental discounts at the Grind will remain at 50% off for employees and are valid only for your own personal use. You (as the employee) must be present at the time of purchase, provide your employee ID number, and show a valid form of ID (such as driver’s license, passport, or active employee ski pass).
• Equipment Check: If you are a returner with the same ski equipment or a snowboarder (returning or new)-please get your equipment safety checked in the Discovery Center Rental Shop. If you have new equipment or you are a new staff member, please drop your equipment off at the Grind to get safety checked (you need to leave it-it may take a few days). You can get a coupon from your manager or from the Discovery Rental shop. This should all be done prior to the Christmas holiday.
• Please order your name tag if you have not already: https://bit.ly/msNameTag . Planning ahead makes life easier for the admin team. Name tags that have been made are on a table in the Clubhouse.
• See the attached Safety sheet. Your safety is important to us. The Busy holiday week is right around the corner, let’s follow the best practices while sliding on the mountain.
• Next week and weekend, we will be giving each staff member a Mount Snow knit hat and a black ball cap. Staff not teaching (wearing a helmet) and out on snow must wear one of these hats….it is part of the uniform.
• I’ve attached the employee meal options for the $5.00 employee lunch. Please remember, lunch is for you only. You must have your employee pass and your employee number at time of purchase. All other items (besides pre-packaged) may be purchased at a 50% staff discount.
• The locker room spaces are for current SRS staff only. Please do not give the combination out or bring friends/family into the locker room.
• We have our check out smart sheet. Best way to access it is by going into Epic Employee and going into “Direct Connect-Get Help” lightbulb tile (see visual directions attached). The one in Direct Connect auto-populates your name and employee ID#. Or you may save this link in your phone: https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/3728e66129834bc1ba9b3594b0eda765 We are asking that staff fill out the smart sheet immediately after you are finished working for the day.
• LIFT Training-please do your lift training. Please use Smart Sheet (above). The Welcome to Winter that is noted on your LIFT will be an in-person resort-wide training (12/17-see below).
• Please if you are an indoor worker---wear pants (jeans are fine) or black snow pants. Wearing sweatpants or leggings is not appropriate for guest facing positions. Anyone working outside with guests, must wear black snow pants with the blue uniform jacket along with gloves and a helmet/hat.
• Our next Welcome to Winter/Epic Service Training event is Saturday, December 17 from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m. (see poster attached). You’ll hear from resort leaders about what’s new this winter and how we can all offer the best experience for our guests and teams. All employees are expected to attend one of these events. If you attended the one on 12/2—no need to attend this one. Everyone else should plan on attending this one. To save time at check-in, everyone must pre-register here: https://forms.office.com/r/qVHpebSs9b (Please do not punch in/out for this event).
• When you arrive to Mount Snow, please park just North of the Lifts /rescue building in the red or yellow area or up in the D/tiered lot (same as last season). Everyone will need to fill out this form to provide us with your car make/model and plate number, so when the paid parking starts….you will not get a ticket. Please fill this out ASAP if you have not filled it out yet (before 4:30pm Monday 12/12). Paid parking starts on 12/17. https://bit.ly/SRSParking

Hello SRS Team,
Good news! We are opening on Sunday. We have limited terrain because Mother Nature was a little late to the game. Staff and dependent skiing/riding is permitted, but please remember that it may be busy.
The Ski & Ride School is fully open for business starting Wednesday, November 23rd (the day before Thanksgiving). Please remember to stick to your schedules. If you would like to add days or you need to modify your schedule, contact your work area manager. They are all cc’d in this email.
• I would like to introduce you to the new Administrative Assistant, Caitlin Danovsky….she goes by “Kit”. She will be assisting Shannon McAvoy and doing payroll for each department in SRS. Her office is located in the Discovery Clubhouse. Her phone extension is: 4994 and she is in the cc of this email. Please welcome Kit to the team when you see her.
• The Grind will open on Sunday and the ticket windows will be open 10-3 on Saturday and all day on Sunday. Please do not go to a ticket window on Sunday morning----it will be very busy with our guests. The Discovery Rental shop will be open all weekend if people need to get a visual gear inspection. Remember, if you have new to you equipment…it needs to get checked at a shop (give your receipt to Matt Heller in our rental shop) or the Grind (also give your receipt to Matt Heller).
• The Mount Snow retail shop opens on Sunday also. Good time to take care of some 40% discounted shopping. You must have your pass and know your employee number at the time of purchase.
• SRS Staff now get the $300 referral bonus. Did you refer anyone? We also have the “Cool Cooler raffle” for staff who referred staff members to SRS. If you referred someone, please email Kit with your name and the person or people’s name that you referred. I have not seen many come in on the application….so just want to make sure we get everyone in on the cooler raffle who deserves it. The $300 referral bonus is done through the Talent Team/People Connect. Please see the attached document that spells out the details of the $300 bonus.
• For folks who did NOT attend the November 5th meeting. We are doing a Make-Up abbreviated version of the refresher on Sunday, 12/4 from 6pm to 8pm. Only people who did not attend on Nov 5th should attend. Here is the link to join the meeting. We will open the meeting at 5:45pm. Click here to join the meeting
• If you are currently a student, or will soon enroll as one, the EpicPromise Employee Foundation will begin accepting applications for Educational Ascent, a one-time scholarship of up to $2,500 for U.S.-based Vail Resorts employees. Whether you're earning a welding certificate, obtaining your pilot's license, or enrolled in a four year bachelor's degree program, we want to support your educational growth.
• When you arrive to Mount Snow, please park just North of the Lifts /rescue building (same as last season). Everyone will need to fill out this form to provide us with your car make/model and plate number, so when the paid parking starts….you will not get a ticket. Please fill this out ASAP. https://bit.ly/SRSParking
• Remember, the locker room combination has changed. It is 1955 for both locker rooms.
• If you go skiing/riding and your pass is not active, it means that you are missing some/all of your electronic paperwork. Best to go into your Epic Employee in Required Notices to see what you may be missing. Shannon sent out an email last week to folks who were missing documents. If you get to the lift and your pass is “invalid”, please be patient and do not give your fellow staff a hard time.
• The Street Team will be hosting a party on December 10 from 4:30-6:30. More info to follow along with a sign-up sheet.
• LIFT Training-please do your lift training. Instead of trying to clock in/out in the pay tile on your phone, please move to using the Smart Sheet (above). The Welcome to Winter that is noted on your LIFT will be an in-person resort-wide training. Dates TBD but will most likely be offered a couple of Saturdays in the evening. As soon as I know, you will know.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!
Please, if this email takes more than 5 minutes to read, feel free to put in for that time by using the smart sheet.

Hello from the Ski & Ride School,
I hope all is well and staying dry. This rain brought in a warm front for a few days. Hopefully, Ma Nature will get with the program and deliver some cooler temps, so we can lay down some snow and open. The chairlift build is coming along for both lifts, it’s been fun to watch the 2 lifts taking shape. The haul rope was spliced on the Sundance Chair last week. Things are really starting to take shape.
I have some important information as everyone gets REhired for the season, please read carefully .
• Shannon McAvoy and I released returning staff from “inactive status” to “active status” yesterday (October 27th). Once you are released, you will be asked to sign into your Epic Employee account. You will have a Vail Resorts email (that is not live—it is just a username to sign into your Epic Account)---check your junk bin. Once you have your Epic Employee account up, you will be asked to fill out some forms and submit. You may find these in your *Required Notices tile at the bottom of the tiles in your Epic Employee app. Please make sure these forms are completed by November 3rd. This way, Shannon and I can see and make sure everyone is active in the system, so that you can get paid for attending the November 5th refresher day. We will also pay everyone an additional 15 minutes for your pre-arrival requirements (like reading this email ), if you need more than the 15 minutes, please let Shannon know.
• We have a generic head count for the Nov 5th refresher based on our calendar link on the number of people attending but will be requiring everyone to sign up using www.instructor.snow.com password: $noW2021. This is the same program we’ve been using and will continue to use to sign up for training events---Experienced Staff Workshops ESW’s as well as regular season trainings. If you cannot sign on---you may not have all of your paperwork completed. You should have done your background check over the course of the last month or two---if you did not, you cannot be activated. Please be sure to sign up for the November 5th refresher BEFORE November 3rd. We need to have an accurate count for lunch (Pizza and Salad).
• The Schedule is as follows:
o 8-10:30: Optional & on your own anytime during this time frame (not paid and is optional).
Pick up your uniform (3rd Floor Disco). Bring your phone to sign your uniform out with.
Claim your locker (using the same locker as last season). PT should plan on sharing, FT have their own.
Pick up your Vouchers (free and 50% off) on the main floor in Disco (where the pods use to be)---bring your season pass. If you don’t have your season pass, you may be able to pick up a new one. If you can’t find your pass, let Shannon know and she will pre-order your pass with the ticket team.
Bring your equipment to Disco Rentals (if not new to you ski and ALL snowboard gear) to get safety checked and your sticker (may need to leave equipment if the shop gets busy). If you have “New to You” equipment, it will need to get dropped at the Grind using a Vail VRR coupon at a later date. Boots will also be required for the inspections. Please just bring 1 set of equipment. We will get your other sets at a later date.
o 10:30-11:00 Sign-In at Sundance Lodge (please be on-time for the 11am start).
o 11:00-5:00: SUNDANCE LODGE for the refresher day. We will do break-out groups throughout the afternoon in Discovery ending our day at Sundance Lodge. Pizza/Salad lunch will be provided. *Please bring a water bottle, so that we can work towards our “Commitment to Zero”. We do not want to use plastic throw-way bottles.
• Parking on November 5th: There are several events happening at the resort plus the construction of the lift at Sundance happening at this time, there is NO parking. Parking behind the Main Base Lodge will be full because the hotel is 100% booked and guided to park behind the Main Base. Since a lot of our pre-training things are happening near Discovery, we recommend that you park near the Discovery Center and walk over to Sundance (so please wear your walking shoes and dress for the weather of the day).
• Please do your Health Check within your Epic Employee App. We are continuing with Staff doing the health check this season (not the guests.). You may be asked to show your green badge upon sign in. Thank you!
• Do you need a Name Tag? Order it here: https://bit.ly/msNameTag
• The WIFI at the resort has changed. WIFI Name: EpicEmployee Password: p0wderdays . You will need your phone to sign out your uniforms.
• Please remember, if you have been requested by a guest to do a private lesson, use the google form link to give our PSS team the information, so they can get it booked for you. SRS Private Request
• If you are unable to attend the November 5th Refresher…. You will need to attend a different refresher, more TBA.
• PSIA/AASI Scholarships are available to members (time sensitive). Please check it out: https://psia-e.org/ed/scholarships/
• The LIFT paid on-line Training: As all of you are familiar with the on-line LIFT training, please refrain until after I send directions on clocking in/out on Monday 10/31 to do any of the assigned training. It will show you how to punch in/out when doing the LIFT training, to make sure you get paid accurately. There will be about 80 minutes of pre-season LIFT training (5 courses) to complete before you start for the season. Please plan on completing this before mid-November. They are: Slope Safety (5 min), DEI Fundamentals (15 min), Guest Service (15 min), Commitment to Zero (15 min) and Wage/Hour (15 min).
Thank you for reading this! For the 18th person to send an email to Shannon with “I’m Excited for the Winter”, will get to pick a prize out of Mo’s prize box on November 5th.
Thank you.

Hello from the Ski & Ride School,
I wanted to inform folks who may be visiting Mount Snow using a 2021-22 Vail employee pass, technically the passes expired on 10/1/22 but if you would like to access the lifts, PSS (tickets) will print vouchers for you. You need to stop by Bluebird Barn BEFORE you try to access the Bluebird lift. Please bring your patience along with a smile. It will be a busy weekend at the resort this weekend (see photo taken today). It looks as if it is a prime foliage weekend. At this time, I am not sure you will have discounts for food or retail.
Thank you,
Mo

Hello from the Ski & Ride School!
The cold weather is here, and the foliage is absolutely amazing. Winter is just around the corner with a target opening of November 11th. The SRS programs (groups and privates) will officially start on Wednesday, November 23rd. I am so excited with all the changes at the resort and in the Ski & Ride School. You will hear all about them on November 5th if you signed up to attend. I wanted to touch base with a few things as we move closer to the opening date. If people cannot attend on November 5th, we will let you know the next steps for you soon.
• Rehire Process: I will be taking people who have submitted a schedule request and indicated intent to return out of Inactive status starting October 28th. Once I do this, people will get an email from Vail asking them to set up their Epic Employee accounts and fill out some release forms. This will all need to be done at least 48 hours before the refresher. Please record the time spent completing these steps as time worked.
• November 5th – Rehire Schedule – if you attend this event, please record attendance time as time worked.
o 8-10:45 – On your own: Uniform pick-up, confirm locker, visit PSS to make sure your pass works and get your vouchers printed, equipment safety drop off and I9’s for folks who took a year off.
o 11:00-5:00 – Welcome and Resort updates in Sundance Lodge (we will have coffee/tea)
Lunch (we will have pizza, salad & water)
SRS updates & Teaching Sessions
Review and Q & A in Sundance Lodge
• Many folks submitted a schedule request form, if you did thank you very much. If you have not filled out a schedule request form, here are the links:
o 2022-23 Part-Time & Holiday Help (temp) Schedule Request Form Mount Snow Ski & Ride School
o 2022-23 Full-Time Staff Schedule Request Form. Mount Snow Ski & Ride School
The managers started this week. They’ve been hard at work getting up to speed on everything and participating in manager training. They are also getting the program spaces ready for the season.
• If folks have request privates, I am putting the link below. If you have guests that want to book you for a request, it would be helpful if you use this form, though doing so before you are re-activated is voluntary.
o SRS Private Request
If you know of someone who is interested in a position at Mount Snow---we are hiring starting at $20/hour. I am very excited about the new pay rates. Remember, if you become part of the team this season and refer someone to work in the Ski & Ride School…may be eligible for the cool cooler referral program. The applicant should put your name on the application in the “referred by” section to get credit. We have a new “Support Staff” position in the SRS….it is a role to help all departments who run out of the Discovery Center including rentals, serving lunch, checking kids in, helping on the beginner hills and more. I still need some more folks for this position----looking for 18+.
Lift update: All of the towers (except for 1) are in place. They will be flying the last tower in soon. The bottom and top of the lifts are being assembled right now. We are on-time for both lifts. It looks as if the Sundance lift will open first and the Sunbrook lift will not open until early-mid December. As we get closer to winter, weather may play a role on the opening of both lifts. It’s been a very exciting process to witness.
Uniforms for this winter will be distributed on November 5th. Shannon McAvoy is organizing uniforms. She is picking out the same size uniform that you had last year. If you need a different size, please let her know and she will make the changes: Shannon.d.mcavoymann@vailresorts.com
Lockers will be the same as last year. Shannon is also assigning those. Anticipating more people in the locker rooms, part-time staff may share a locker and full-time staff should have their own locker. We are allowing our indoor support staff to have a locker as well---it’s a great benefit to working at a resort. If you need to make a change to your locker, please let Shannon know.
We are using the same season pass media cards as last season. So, bring yours with you on November 5th. When you pick up your ticket vouchers, it will get scanned and we can make sure it is valid. If it is not valid, that means you did not complete all of the hiring documents and you can grab it another time. If you lost your season pass media card from last year, please email Shannon McAvoy and she will let PSS (tickets) know, so they can print one for you.
Thank you for your time! I look forward to winter approaching.

Hello SRS Staff,
I hope everyone is having a great summer! I am back in the office planning for the winter months and praying to the snow Gods for a good season. I wanted to welcome you back to the SRS Winter staff for the 2022-23 season. For returning 2021-22 staff, no need to fill out another application. I already have you in my hiring bin and all I need to do it toggle a switch to bring you back on staff. I will be able to do this once I have a commitment calendar from you (see links below). If you missed last season, you will need to fill out an application and I can fast track you through the hiring process. If you don’t think you will be able to return, please let me know.
There have been many exciting changes not only at the resort but in the Ski & Ride School as well. Here are a few of them:
• We are getting 2 new lifts! Many of you know this but it has been exciting at the resort watching the progress. We’ve had helicopters flying towers out, this week helicopters are flying cement in for the tower foundations (see photo). The new Sunbrook and Sundance chairs will be a great addition for our resort.
• We are raising the top of the Mercury Carpet. This is the carpet on the northern side of Disco where the red 3-6 year olds le00arn how to ski/ride. It is currently at a 5% pitch grade and we are increasing it to a 10% grade which will be similar to the Apollo carpet making it more functional for the children using it.
• We’ve removed the seating pods on the main level of the Discovery Center. The tickets and kids registration will be working in that area now. This will enable our guests to walk in from the front of the building, easily access the rental shop and walk out the back door to their lessons all ready to go. This is not only a very welcoming environment for our guests but makes the flow nicer too.
• Since we are moving the tickets from the bottom floor to the middle floor….we will be moving the Mountain Camp lunch room from the Main Base Lodge to the old tickets area in the Discovery Center. This will enable our 7-14 year olds to eat slope side instead of trekking over to the basement level of the Main Base Lodge. Snow Camp will still be eating in the same area. We will continue to serve food to both age groups mid-week, so they will eat together.
• We’ve added some offices to the Clubhouse to enable the SRS Support and Supervisory staff to have space to work. Don’t worry, there is still plenty of room to enjoy a break in there. We utilized a small area in the north section of the room so that the offices match the other admin offices on the 3rd floor.
• As you know, we’ve increased the minimum wage to $20.00/hour. Also increasing the certified staff to: Level 1=$21, Level 2=$23 and Level 3=$27. We will continue our private lesson request rates and other program incentives.
• I re-invented the part-time calendar to allow some flexibility but at the same time to ensure we have the busy days covered. See the 3 part-time options in the Calendar Commitment link below. We are hiring FT, PT and Temp/Holiday help staff.
• Both Toby (Training) and Shannon (Admin) will be back at the resort in early September.
• There is more, but I will give you a little at a time!
Don’t forget that the rehire date is scheduled for November 5th and it will be in-person! I am so excited to see everyone then. There is a question in the calendar (see link below) asking if you will be attending or not.
Lastly, remember we have the Cool Cooler Program. For each person that you refer to work here and they work through Christmas week…you will be put in a drawing to win the large Yeti cooler. People who refer 3 or more will not only have chances to win the Yeti but will be put in for the Titan cooler. These are high quality expensive coolers. I have not seen any referrals as of yet….let’s see if we can get some in!
Here is a direct link to the Mount Snow employment page: https://jobs.vailresortscareers.com/mount-snow/go/Mount-Snow-Jobs/8113100/ I’ve also attached a flyer with the QR code-it can be posted anywhere….school, work, community boards and more.
Here are the links to the Staff Calendars---please submit them by September 30th at the latest. We are starting to sell both Private and group lessons today, so we would like to get some schedules in sooner.

Hello SRS Staff:
Once again, thank you for all that you do. I hope you all had fun this season, I know I did. The Discovery Center is very quiet right now----I feel like the kids moved out L. I have a few things to inform everyone about---so please read the bullet points below.
· Rehire weekend: November 5-6. I am not sure if it will be a half day, full day or more but I will let you know. Please put this date in your calendar, so you can attend rehire. We are hoping to do this in person (assuming Covid stays quiet). For those who were new this season, the process is as follows:
o Late Summer-we send a commitment calendar out to staff.
o Once we get the commitment calendar, we toggle a switch in the computer and rehire you (you will be paused for the season). No need to re-apply or do all of the paperwork again.
o Once you are hired, you will need to fill out the background check and release forms in Epic Employee. Once you do this---your pass will be valid (yup-it’s the same pass, so hold onto it).
o Then-you attend the paid training in November and are ready to work!
· See the attached flyer for Mount Snow’s end of season “Last Tracks” party flyer. You do need to RSVP for this event that will be held on Monday, April 25th---so please take a look.
· Justin Feldman, a physical therapist who works at Mount Snow provided us with a knee strengthening video. Take a look and maybe you can make this part of your daily routine to keep your knees safe---not only for skiing/riding but for other activities you do. Knee Strengthening Video
· Please return all uniform pieces and clean out your locker by this Saturday (tomorrow). I will be here Saturday from 9am-4pm and will make sure the locker room is available for staff. You need to take home all of your gear. Uniforms need to be returned in the Discovery Center-3rd floor. There will NOT be anyone in the Discovery Center or at the resort on Sunday. If you cannot make it by Saturday, please let me now and we can arrange something. I would like all uniforms back before Easter weekend (4/15). If you need to mail it: Mount Snow SRS, 12 Mount Snow Rd, West Dover, VT 05356 Attn: Maureen Drummey.
· Refer A Friend: See the photo attached. If you refer a person to apply to the SRS for a job and they get trained and work through the Christmas holiday-you will be put into a drawing to win the big Yeti Cooler! If you have the most referrals (more than 3-ties split by coin toss), they you will win the smaller Titan Cooler. We have referral cards in the Discovery Center or you can just tell the person to put your name on the application when they apply! Note: Instructors need to be 16 or older. We are hiring just a couple 14-15 year old Aides next season. Applications go “live” on www.mountsnow.com sometime in July. Applicants do not need to contact me---they can just submit the application. Thank you for participating!
· I work 10 months and will be working from both home and the resort. If you need anything, please reach out. Please note: I am off for June and July and will not be checking my email regularly.
Thank you again for all that you do and I hope you all have a nice summer.

Hello SRS Team,
I am sorry for all of the emails---but now that we are nearing the end of the season, things are changing rapidly and I want to make sure you are “in the know”!
· Starting Monday, April 4th skiing/Riding will move 100% to Carinthia. The Discovery Center will be closed (but we will keep a door unlocked if you want to come visit).
· Please make sure you’ve turned all uniform pieces in (in the Clubhouse of the Discovery Center) and cleaned out your locker 100% by Sunday afternoon.
· Anyone who completed a PSIA/AASI certification, should send Toby Burrows the receipt and copy of the cert by tomorrow afternoon 4/3. We will not be able to reimburse an event fee once you are placed on SIS for the season nor will be able to reimburse an event fee next season when the event happened this season.
· We will NOT be doing private lessons for the remainder of the season and since we are moving to Carinthia, we no longer need help with scanning or lift operations for the remainder of the season.
· Mount Snow Employee Last Tracks Party ~ Monday, April 25th ~ If weather permits Nitro Lift will operate from 10am-12pm for STAFF ONLY, and a fun and exciting Staff Party to follow. Live Music and Tito’s Taquiera Taco Buffet from 12pm-2pm. Mark your calendar!
Thank you all!

Hello SRS Staff,
Thank you again for all that you do. We are truly a wonderful mountain family. As the season winds down, I’ve said many “see you laters”. I work all year except for the months of June and July, so if you need anything, please feel free to reach out. I have a few announcements below.
· There is a Mount Snow Town Hall and all are invited to attend. It will be Tuesday, March 29th from 5:30-6:30. If you attend, you should fill out your Smart Sheet check out to make sure you get paid. You were emailed a link to your personal email for this Town Hall. I will also email a link to the meeting later this week. Please attend if you can.
· Action Required: I encourage participation from all seasonal employees in the GLINT SURVEY between March 23- April 1. The greater our team’s participation, the more holistic our data insights will be. This is your time to offer your opinion whether it be awesome or recommendation for changes to improve. Please take a few minutes to participate. You may access the Glint Survey from your Epic Employee App (where you do your health screen). It is anonymous and your input would be appreciated.
· Who is looking to extend their season? We are looking for scanners, lift operators (for the remainder of the season) and Pourers for the Brew Fest on Saturday April 2nd. Please let me know! Remember, the $2/hour bonus you will receive for each hour you work. You must be 18+ to work as a beer pourer for BrewFest.
· We may be doing private lessons starting April 4th (if we have beginner terrain). Let Dave Isaacs know if you are interested in being available.
· If you are currently a student, or will soon become one, the EpicPromise Employee Foundation is now accepting applications for Educational Ascent, a one-time educational scholarship of up to $2,500 for U.S.-based Vail Resorts employees.
· Important & Time sensitive: Did you sign up to attend the End of Season Party? Please do—Shannon sent an RSVP this week. Sign-up by this Sunday. Please sign up if you are coming—we need to pre-order the pizza. It will be a fun evening with indoor lawn games and special awards for SRS Staff.
· Please RETURN all uniform pieces (jackets and pants) up in the Clubhouse of the Discovery Center. There is a self-service QR code on the rack. Make sure you wash it and clean out your pockets.
· Don’t forget our “refer a friend – win a cool cooler” program. We have referral cards up in the Clubhouse. Come grab a few to hand out throughout the summer. Shannon just sent out information on this. Applications for winter positions go live on our website in July. If you know of anyone interested in working at Mount Snow, please tell them to fill out an application on the website.
• Since I did not get enough responses last week, I am asking again….. Question of the week: For the 16th person to email me with the correct answer, you will get to pick out of my infamous prize box! What is the employee recognition program that issues different pins based on our Core Values and you can nominate co-workers using your Epic Employee app?
· Lastly, Congrats to the individuals who were chosen to attend the Hyde Academy this coming weekend. The Cooper Foundation sponsors the Hyde Academy. Attendees are chosen by the management staff who show a love for putting the guest first and passing on their passion to the sport they love just like Pat Hyde did for many years in the SRS. For more information: www.williamycooperfoundation.org . I’ve included the lucky bunch of attendees below-please congratulate them when you see them. They will be skiing/riding with Troy Walsh from the PSIA National Team and Tom Vickery from the AASI-E Examiner staff (former National Team Member).

Hello SRS Staff-
It sure was warm this week and will be a bit wet tomorrow. We are still 100% operating, so please stick to your days unless you hear otherwise from your manager/supervisor. The plan is to stay open as long as we can on the main mountain and north face and move to Carinthia where there is a huge base later in the season. The goal is to keep Mount Snow open until April 24th. I am waiting to see what Mother Nature brings but we do typically run walk-up discounted private lessons after we close group lessons. We will see what type of terrain we have before we make that call.
Please read through the bulleted items for more helpful information:
• Last day of SRS group lessons is Sunday, April 3rd. We will most likely offer walk-up private lessons starting April 4th. If you would like to be available for the walk-up private lessons, please reach out to Dave Isaacs and he will put you on a list for the days you are available.
•
• Remember, there is a $2.00/hour bonus (started 1/1/22) for those who complete their season in full. You can extend your season by working for lifts or scanning. If you are interested in helping out one of those departments to earn hours late in the season, let me know and I will arrange for you to work in one of those departments.
•
• We are doing some PSIA/AASI events this weekend. A CS1, PSIA1 and Adaptive workshop. All of these groups are meeting in the Clubhouse of the Discovery Center.
•
• End of Season Party is scheduled for Saturday, April 2nd at the Sundance Lodge. See attached for the official invite. We will need people to RSVP, so we have the numbers for food. We invite you to rsvp & bring your family members too (we will be charging $5.00 for age 5+ for the food for non-staff attendees). We hope that you can come. We will have indoor lawn games and music provided by Daniel Silverman (I think he is looking for some fellow musicians to play with too for an open mic). Did you take pictures this season? Submit them HERE for the slideshow. Pizza provided by Tony’s. Please let us know what kind you like HERE. Gluten free option will be available.
•
• ALL uniforms MUST be turned in to Shannon. She will have a rolling cart and QR code up in the Clubhouse for a self service uniform return (see attached). Please return them clean and make sure the pockets are empty.
•
• Exciting news!!! Did you all get the email that the minimum wage for all Vail resorts will be $20.00/hour starting the fall of 2022? We will all also get 40% off in the retail shops. How exciting for all of us. With this new wage information, can you refer someone to work at Mount Snow? You may have seen the cool Yeti coolers in the Club House. If not, come take a look to check out the new SRS refer a friend raffle. Pay rates will be: non-cert: $20/hour, Level 1 cert: $21/hour, Level 2 cert: $23/hour, Level 3 cert $27/hour. All certifications MUST be current and dues up to date.
• For each person that a current staff member refers to work in SRS, we will put your name in a drawing to win that Yeti Cooler. The applicant must put your name on the application. For the person who refers the MOST applicants in the same way, they will win the smaller cool cooler (ties broken with a coin toss). My thought is....if everyone brought a friend, then we would have an even "cooler" team. Applications will be available on the Mount Snow website starting in July. How many people can you refer to work in SRS?
•
• Attached is the "Employee Farewell Checklist"...it is a basic guideline provided by Vail to help you navigate the end of season process. Everyone will: get an end of season review done by their managers & supervisors, return uniforms, clean out locker/work space, let your manager know if you plan on returning (it is a different exit process). If you are unsure, please ask questions.
•
• Also attached is is a document from Feldman Physical Therapy. Mount Snow/Vail has teamed up with them to offer free physical therapy to staff to work through some physical things you may have. I personally used them and it was great to work with them using the Zoom platform. They talk to you and assess then give you some exercises and stretches to help you. The document has a QR code, just scan it and email them. They will get right back to you. Please feel free to use this free service.
•
• Question of the week: For the 16th person to email me with the correct answer, you will get to pick out of my infamous prize box! What is the employee recognition program that issues different pins based on our Core Values and you can nominate co-workers using your Epic Employee app?
•
• Did you get your SRS Staff t-shirt? You may pick yours up with Shannon in the Clubhouse. You may wear these t-shirts while working on a surface lift only and you must be wearing a name tag. Once you hit the lifts, you must have the brown puff or the blue NF shell.
•
• If you ordered logo wear from Bulldog, your order is in. Staff orders can be picked up in the Clubhouse near Shannon's desk. The items you ordered are in a bag with your name on it. Come and get it!
•
• Lastly-Safety, Safety, Safety. Please use the Stop Model: Stop, Think, Options & Plan before you do something. The snow is "different" this time of year and sometimes people feel like their are wearing their super power cape. Please be careful out there!
Thank you everyone for all that you do and for your continued passion of snowsports! I am really hoping to see many of you at the end of season party on April 2nd.

Hello SRS Staff,
Thanks again for all that you do. The days are getting longer and so is our season! It looks like we are hoping to be open until April 24th. We will most likely move operations over to Carinthia as trails thin out at the Main mountain---we do not have a date of the main mountain closing yet as that will be up to Mother Nature. We will start to see activity over at Sundance as the 2 lifts that are coming out are disassembled and chairs moved to the Sundance parking lot. The last day of group lessons will be Sunday, April 3rd. We will most-likely offer discounted private lessons for walk-ups only but I am waiting to see what Mother nature brings and what trails we have available. We can offer privates at Carinthia if we have beginner terrain. So---let’s wait and see.
I have some SRS announcements for ya’ll! Take a look and let me know if you have any questions.
· Obtaining your Tax W-2: Navigate to epicemployee.vailresorts.com to view your W-2 electronically. After logging in, select My Pay > View My Pay Info > View W-2/W-2c Forms. Click on the Year End Form link to download the printable version of the document. If you have any questions regarding this notice or W-2 Statements, please visit Direct Connect: Learn More & Get Help.
· Remember, you will get a $2/hour bonus for each hour you have worked after 1/1/2022. If anyone would like to add teaching days-please do. We are still busy on weekends and will continue to be. If you would like more work, the internationals are leaving and we need help scanning and operating lifts----let me know if you are interested and we can schedule some days to help out in those other work areas. How do I get my bonus? You will get this bonus about 2 weeks after you are exited. If you have direct deposit, it will get put right into your account. If you don’t, it will come in way of a paper check. We will probably then mail it to you unless we hear differently.
· SRS End of Season Party will be Saturday afternoon-evening, April 2nd! We will be celebrating with indoor yard games, food, drink and SRS instructor awards. Mark your calendar. More information to come soon from Cruise Director Shannon McAvoy.
· The Cooper Foundation is hosting a FREE award and appreciation event at Dot’s of Dover on Saturday, March 26 from 5-7pm. Peter Miles will be playing music. It will be a smaller event, so we are asking those who are interested in attending to sign up using the link below via “Eventbrite”. I hope you can join us in celebrating the season. Cooper Foundation: Awards & Appreciations Tickets, Sat, Mar 26, 2022 at 5:00 PM | Eventbrite
· LIFT Training for “Kids on Lifts”. We were asked to watch this training video again, so the managers sent it out to staff to watch and put in 15 minutes of time to the Smart Sheet check out to get paid. Then, a couple of days ago a LIFT training came out with the “kids on lifts” marking it as mandatory to complete within 6 days. Please just ignore the LIFT training for now. I was told by Health and Safety that we should be able to go in and mark it complete for those who completed it already. We are submitting an attendance sheet to Health and Safety for all the people who watched it already. If you have not watched the video-please do so and log your time in the smart sheet. Thank you and I am sorry for any confusion.
· A new Director of Skier Services has been announced. David Yeagle from Stowe will be moving here to fill that position. I’ve been working with him for the last 2 years while he was in his role as Sr. Manager of the SRS at Stowe. He should be starting in the next couple of weeks but may be working remotely while he moves his family. Hopefully you will all be able to meet him soon. No announcement on a new GM yet.
· Question of the week: For the 17th person to answer this question, you may pick a cool prize out of my prize box. When riding the chairlift with your guests and you cannot all fit on one chair, where should you ride? First, middle, last? And why?
· If you ordered SRS logo-wear from Bulldog, they will be available for pick up some time tomorrow afternoon at my office. Stop by and pick your order up.
· Staff t-shirts are in and are free for current staff. They will be available for hand out again starting 3/17 (after Shannon returns). If you have not picked yours up-you may do so from her office in the Clubhouse. These shirts may be worn during warmer weather on the surface lifts only with a name tag. Once you go on a lift, you must wear the blue uniform jacket.
Thank you for all that you do and the passion you share with others.

Hello SRS Staff,
Days are getting longer, snow is getting softer but we are still open for business. In fact, we were sold out yesterday and plan on being sold out next weekend as well. Please make sure you stick to your schedule, so we can cover the guests wanting to take lessons.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. We have an amazing group of instructors at Mount Snow. I have some news—please read through the bullet items below to see some things that are going on in our world.
· Shannon McAvoy is temporarily out of the office until March 16th. Shannon is working from home until then, so if you have a question or need something please feel free to email her. We have t-shirts for everyone. Many people picked theirs up but if you did not, Shannon will hand them out when she returns.
· All managers sent out a link to watch the 13 minute video “Kids on Lifts”. Corporate wanted us to have people watch the video again and we need to upload a list of folks who did the training again by later this week. Please do so and do your check out smart form to get paid. Let your manager know you watched it, so they can mark you down as “completed”.
· We are collecting 100% of the uniforms this season. Mount Snow will have a uniform department for the resort and they want to get a good inventory and system of handling them in place for 2022-23. The uniforms may get returned to Shannon directly. If you are returning it before she comes back to work on 3/16, you may give it to your Manager/Supervisor.
· We are having an end of season gathering (Most likely Saturday, 4/2—details TBA). Please get all of your skiing/riding photos to Shannon, so she can make a slide show presentation. They can be après, lessons or just out ripping it up with your friends. Please email them to Shannon directly.
· There is a party sponsored by the Street Team on March 10th---it says “international party” because the internationals are leaving but ALL staff are invited. Please feel free to attend. The flyer is attached.
· PSIA - We are a GO for 2 events, a Level 1 & a CS1 March 19/20. You can only pick one. While we wait for the official registration codes for this event, here is a form asking who is interested. We are opening this up to other Vail Resort staff as well---please spread the word. Fill out this quick form to let us know. https://forms.gle/uep8cwWJEhHEZyRAA . Shannon will send out the link to sign up to interested participants. This is a great opportunity!
· Remember, when you get a certification, email the certificate and pay receipt to Toby and myself to get credit and a reimbursement for the event.
· Remember, March is NOT invincibility month---be careful when not only working but free riding/skiing. We still have over a month left, you don’t want to end your season early.
· 2022-23 SRS Rehire “in-person” weekend is planned for November 5-6. We are not sure of the details or whether it will be a Saturday and/or Sunday but wanted to be sure you put that weekend on your calendar.
· We plan on ending group lessons on April 3rd. We may do private lessons after that but will wait to see what terrain we have before we decide. Please make sure you have your 10 (temp) or 23+ (part time) days in for the season.
Thank you everyone!

Hello SRS Staff-
Thank you for all that you do. We have such a wonderful crew of staff. I’ve had some time on the slopes and at line ups over the last few weeks to see everyone doing what they love---teaching skiing and riding and it’s been fun. We are continuing to be a very busy Ski & Ride School. If you find yourself with some extra time and would like to add some days, please do. We are looking ahead to the busy President’s week, which is February 19 through February 25. We are actually oversold on some of those mid-week days and could use some help for both skiing & Riding.
· From Brian Donovan: With a very heavy heart, I must also announce that I will be leaving the company and Mount Snow effective next week. It has been a tremendous privilege to get the opportunity to work with all of you for the past 7 years. You are all fantastic co-workers, and I simply want to say thank you for all that you have done for me, for our team, for your team members, and for Mount Snow as a whole. I learn a huge amount every day getting to work with all of you. You are all tremendous people, leaders, colleagues, and I am proud to call all of you friends. Thank you for welcoming my family and me into the Mount Snow community in 2014. Mount Snow will always have a very special place in our lives. Thank you for all you do to make Mount Snow a terrific place for our guests, our employees, and our community. You have all definitely made it a terrific place for me. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
From Mo: I wish Brian the very best in the future on National Team and on the slopes. Brian has been such a wonderful person to work with over the years and has been an amazing support in many ways. I am proud of all of your accomplishments and know you will move mountains where ever you go. We will miss you Brian!
· Injuries – Historically injuries start trending up at this time of year each season. Skiing and Riding on duty injuries always lead the way here. As more terrain becomes open on the mountain, it’s important to stress to our groups. Please stay safe out there! Injuries often occur in 3 categories:
o When employees are new to their job.
o When employees are tired and aren’t taking care of themselves physically or mentally.
o When employees become complacent on the job and start going through the motions.
· Don’t forget to order your SRS Logo Wear. It is only available through this Sunday - 1/30. See attachment!
· Glint Surveys: Please, please, please fill out the Vail Glint Staff Survey. This is an anonymous survey asking for feedback for Vail & Mount Snow, Managers and asking how you feel to be part of the team. It is a resort goal to have at least 80% of our staff fill out these surveys. The only way we as a company can improve is by getting feedback. Make your voice heard and do the survey. Some people may have received it by email and others may see it in their Epic Employee App. Open the App and look above the health screen to the person icon. Click on that and it will take you to “messages”. Look for the survey in there. It is only available for a limited time—so get it done soon.
· Please remember, we can use the Tubing hill to teach. It is probably geared more towards snowboarding lessons----so make your way over there please. It is a great place to get a lot of mileage for both skiers and riders. Many of the Light green/day 3 level snowboard groups should try it out. There are no lines---ever! The other thing I want everyone to try is the run-out from Snowdance trail. It is more for green+ folks who can come down NE Time to Snowdance---it is a great place to dip in and do a lesson segment. It is only open to SRS and the home owners. Please, please use these 2 options while teaching lessons.
Thank you again for all that you do and we will see you on the slopes!

Hello SRS Staff,
We have 2 holidays down and one more to go but we are still very busy in-between. Please do your best at coming in on scheduled days and feel free to add some more. We are sold out for many of the mid-week as well as weekend days. I have a few announcements, please read the bullet items below.
· We are opening the run out to the Trails Edge Homes at the bottom of Snowdance for Ski & Ride School only. It is getting groomed tonight. The opening will be a chicane (off set rope) with a sign that says for “Trails Edge and SRS only”….it is not for the general public. I went on it today and it looks like great teaching terrain for light greens. You do need to come down NE Time to Snowdance to get to it. My thoughts as we use this terrain, is that it is a “trial run” for the possibility for lower levels in the future---but we are using it right now as a safe-low traffic area to teach greens (or any level) or just to run off of Snowdance without going into the high-traffic narrow chute. The right side of this area does have some water bars—so best to stay on skiers left when you first enter the trail. As exiting the trail onto Disco---please be careful of prospective staff snowmobile traffic going up beside the black fence and make sure you go back onto Disco and do NOT go down the snowmobile path. We plan on having this available weekends/holidays only for now. Have fun and please give me some feedback.
· We are also opening the Tubing Hill for teaching on weekends and holidays. We did a trial last weekend but there was not enough snow and it was too narrow. Snowmakers put more snow down and we had the natural snow on Monday-so it is looking pretty good. It will get groomed tonight from edge to edge. It is best to bring beginner snowboarders on it (hard for skiers to get there since walking can be difficult for beginner skiers). Please feel free to check out this space before your lessons and please use it as another option for teaching terrain. There has been a lot of traffic on the Discovery Shuttle lift---this can help alleviate the Disco lift line.
· Please remember that the blue Ski & Ride School uniform jacket is for when you are teaching only (you may also wear it when you do First Tracks training). Last weekend, someone was seen skiing with their uniform jacket with gray pants. This is a no-no. When working-all staff must wear black pants.
· Patty Dorris won last week’s question of the week by answering that Shannon McAvoy was the best Admin in the company. Congrats and she picked a cool prize out of my box. We had over 50 responses---which was amazing! This week’s question is: In what year did the Bluebird bubble chairlift make its debut---and open for the season? For the 15th correct answer, you will get to pick a prize!
· For those who have not completed your LIFT training on-line, please do so. This is paid training. Your managers will highlight your name on the check-in list and ask you to complete this asap.
· Lastly, there are an opportunity for hours out there and you can touch base with your manager if you are interested. We have some early morning work with events and scanning (before the resort opens) both mid-week and weekend. There are also opportunities to help scan at lunch or in the afternoon to give breaks to staff. And we have a rental shop in Discovery that always needs help in the mornings before lessons. Please speak with your manager if you are interested in working more hours.
Thank you to everyone for all of your hard work and dedication to the sport. Skiing/riding has been amazing especially since Mother Nature has provided over a foot of fresh snow. Expect a busy resort this weekend and dress for really cold weather. We are running low (or may be out) of hand-warmers but I’ve ordered more.
Stay safe!

Hello SRS staff,
We are ready to enter the Martin Luther King holiday weekend. As always, it looks like it could be a cold weekend with some snow on Monday. Please come ready to teach in the cold weather and to be busy each day. This is one of the busiest weekends at the resort because it is a 3 day weekend and everyone shows up on Saturday. I know each work area has people assigned to greet and help in the rental shop early in the morning, any and all of your help is appreciated and welcomed.
I have a few announcements. Please take a few minutes to read through the bullet points, so that you are “in the know”.
· Congrats to Jeff Stamler, he got the STOP model correct last week and will be able to pick a prize out of my prize box. Congrats! Please see the attachment “STOP” to review the Stop safety model. Stop-Think-Options-Power.
· Due to Mother Nature’s “manic” mood, we have not had the Epic snowfall that we are accustomed to. Please do your best at hiding on the mountain this weekend for MLK, find those “hidden” teaching areas such as “Sweet 16” or “Little Dipper”. We should have the tubing hill to teach skiing/riding as well. The Covered Bridge magic carpet will be open. Remember the “Go Zones---where you move forward” and the safe places to teach a skill. Remember, when turning to check on your class as they are skiing/riding behind you….stop then look. Often times, this is when you catch an edge and go down. It is always sad to end your season early---let’s avoid these injuries. STOP then count/check on students.
· MLK Torchlight Parade will be Sunday, January 16th. Loading the Canyon lift at 5:15pm. Torches can be picked up at the base of Canyon. Participants need to be 18 years or older and staff only please (sorry 16-17 year olds L).
· Please see the attachment for Food & Beverage Top 10 questions/answers. If you have not done so already, you can show your Employee pass and vax card to get a sticker put on the card for a quick show and enter a food outlet. If your sticker is coming off---show your vax card for a new sticker. Places for SRS staff to eat: Main Base Pro Locker Room, Main Base first floor near Cuzzins in the Jungle area and the Discovery Center third floor Clubhouse. We have a fridge and microwave in the Discovery Center for staff along with complimentary Keurig coffee for staff (thank you Street team and Den Jenard).
· Please see attached the Ski & Ride School Terms of Sale and Cancellation policy. Vail has very strict guidelines on refunds and cancellations. Please, if you have a guest who is not satisfied or worried about the weather, direct them to a supervisor or manager. Do not take matters into your own hands and offer them a refund. Please do not send them down to the ticket desk. We have a system in place that starts with the managers.
· Cold weather! This Saturday will be cold. Please make sure your students have face coverings as well as eye protection (goggles)….it is a MUST for children. If they do not, please send them to the sport shop to purchase. Frost nip starts out as raised red patch of skin and turns gray/white. Best to put a warm hand on the spot (do not rub) and then get indoors immediately. If a student says their feet hurt one minute and then say they are ok another minute---their feet could be numb. Best to go in and defrost. We are trying hard not to do indoor snacks with students but during the cold---I recommend short breaks throughout the lesson. We don’t need a break to involve food and drink. Each core area manager has hand & toe warmers for staff-----ask if you need and you shall receive.
· Smart Sheet: I know this is new this season and we’ve been fine-tuning the smart sheet check-out…so it’s been evolving. Please make sure you seek help from a supervisor if you have questions/problems. The smart sheet should be filled out right after your last assignment (no later than 4:15pm). Supervisors need to enter payroll for the day and are often times waiting for people to complete their check-out. It is most difficult on payroll Saturdays—so please get those done in a timely manner. There is a computer in the Clubhouse (3rd floor Disco) for anyone to use or you can use your smart phone.
· Parking: If you did not get your car make/model/plate # to Shannon last month, you do need to park in D lot or the tiered lot. For those who did get that info in, you may park in the back of C lot as well as the triangle just near D. If you park elsewhere….you will get a ticket. To avoid the ticket, please park in the correct place. For those parking in the D lot, please see the following photo on how to park. Since we are typically here early, we can start off the parking right and be able to fit more cars at the resort
· Are you interested in getting your PSIA Level 1 (alpine only) or Children Specialist 1 (alpine & snowboard)? You can do this right down the road at the Hermitage next month. Sign up ASAP directly with PSIA: www.psia-e.org
· 322AL0210B Alpine Level I Exam 2/10/22 8:45 2/11/22 16:00 Hermitage Club (VT)
· 322CS0210A Children's Specialist 1 2/10/22 8:45 2/11/22 16:00 Hermitage Club (VT)
· Please, please, please-----if you still need to complete on-line LIFT training, do it now. For every training you did not do, I get an email notification clogging up my inbox. This is mandatory and paid training. Do not ignore the emails that you have over-due training----let’s do the training.
· For the 10th email to answer correctly, you may win a prize out of my prize box. What is the name of the most amazing Administrative Assistant for SRS who helps everyone with everything from helmets, uniforms, lockers, vax cards, log ins, payroll and more?
· Mount Snow will not be able to offer tubing this season. We are going to focus on opening trails for skiing and riding this season and focus on using staff in other places at the mountain. Please let guests know if they ask. We will be able to use the tubing hill and magic carpet for lessons---so a win for SRS.
· From Vail: In recognition of your commitment to the guest experience throughout this incredibly challenging season, we are announcing a new End-of-Season Bonus. You can work in SRS and fill in some additional hours in other departments as they ask for help.
· Your bonus will be $2.00 per hour for all hours worked from Jan. 1, 2022 through your end of season date or April 15 if your season runs longer (less applicable taxes and deductions).
· Illustrative Example: Employee works 40 hours per week for the 15-week period between Jan. 1 and Apr. 15 (600 hours). Employee would get an End-of-Season bonus of $1,200 (600 hours x $2.00/hour).
Thank you everyone for all of your hard work and dedication this season. We have an amazing team of dedicated professionals.

Hello SRS Staff,
It was a busy holiday week and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who made it a success. Passing on your passions for skiing and riding to others is what it is all about---so thank you. I have a few announcements for this week, please take the time to read through them.
• If you are experiencing COVID symptoms, please do your health check and answer the questions correctly...this is called "screening out". You will then be asked to start a case with People Connect and start your 10-day quarantine. You may also be asked to upload your positive covid test. Please DO NOT come to work if you are sick.
•
• Eating lunch---if you are looking for a place to eat lunch, you may eat in a few different areas: One is in the "Jungle Room", which is on the main floor of the main base lodge on the left just before Cuzzins, Or the 3rd floor of the Discovery Center in the Club House or the Main Base Pro Locker Room area. Please remember masks are to be worn indoors except when actively eating and drinking.
•
• If you are entering the Main Base or other food establishments, you may enter with a full uniform on. Otherwise, you need to show your vaccination card to get in. There are new stickers that you can get from any of the vaccination check points to put on your employee pass (guests can get these too)----then in the future, you just need to show the sticker on your pass. If your sticker falls off or falls apart, show your vax card for a new sticker. Please be sure to be kind to the vax checkers. It is all for everyone's safety.
•
• Please remember to be patient and kind with other staff members. We are all light on staff and feeling the crunch of the holiday period. If you are experiencing a problem with another staff member, please just get their name, department and a time and get the information to your manager. We will take care of everything on the back end. We most certainly do not want to create a scene or an uncomfortable situation in front of other staff members and guests.
•
• New Year's Eve Torchlight tomorrow night: Sign-up sheets will be located in the locker rooms. Torches will be available at the base of the Canyon lift. Please wear an old jacket (NOT your uniform). You may get burn holes and will smell like sulfur. This is for our 18 or older staff only. Please be safe. There are NO fireworks to accompany the torchlight parade---please feel free to let our guests know. I do see the weather is not looking favorable, please check the locker room for updates later in the day.
•
• If you sustain an injury while working, please let your supervisor/manager know within 24 hours. They will need to sit down and write a report with you to capture all of the details. If a guest collides with you (or vice versa), please call patrol so they can document and get all names & information for both parties---even if everyone is ok. You will also fill out a "near miss" with your manager.
•
• A good method to avoid injury is to follow the STOP model. The 15th person to email me with what the STOP Model stands for will get to pick a prize out of my special prize box.
•
• Finally, please give some love (from a distance) to all of the managers and supervisors. They've worked tirelessly to schedule everyone, communicate with guests, serve lunch and troubleshoot problems. Thank you Doug, Melissa, Dave, Wyatt, Steve, Stevie, Shelly, Dawn, Gen and Matt. And a special Thank you to Shannon for all of her behind the scenes and in front of the scenes help this week. I've been working remotely all week----I will be back on Sunday just as things start to quiet down .
Be well, stay safe and Happy New Year----2022!

Hello Ski & Ride Staff,
As we approach the busy holiday season, I wanted to send an information email to everyone. Most of the new hire staff are on-board and shadowing. Please…if you are a returning staff member, seek out a new face and introduce yourself. If you are new to the Ski & Ride School, please feel free to ask staff questions. The SRS staff is an exceptional group of people who love helping people.
Most of our information is sent by email—please take a minute to read through this email, so you are “in the know” and ready for the season. Once you put that blue uniform jacket on---you are a billboard. If you are approached by a guest and you are unable to help them, walk them to someone who may be able to help them (an Ambassador, ticket window, supervisor). We pride ourselves in exceptional service and providing a memorable experience. Thank you for being part of the team and for sharing your love for skiing/riding to others. It is so rewarding!
I do have a few messages for you…please read the following:
· Congratulations to Toby Burrows and his wife Allie. Logan Peter Burrows was born last Thursday morning at 12:20am weighing in at 7 lbs 8oz and is 19.5 inches long. Everyone is happy and healthy. Toby is hanging out with his family for a bit enjoying this new addition. Brian Donovan is taking over Training communications until Toby returns.
· We are excited to announce a one-time December bonus opportunity for eligible employees this season. All Grade 22-25 employees, excluding corporate roles and GTLC, who work 76 hours or more during the two weeks between Dec. 18-31, will receive a $200 bonus (less applicable taxes and deductions). We know that you will work incredibly hard during this holiday period, when guest visitation and demand are at their highest. This bonus opportunity is intended to recognize and reward you for your commitment during the busiest time of the season. Part-time and holiday help employees are also eligible if they work 76 or more hours from Dec. 18-31. For the week before Christmas, this is a good opportunity to help in other departments when SRS is not busy. Mobil fulfillment, scanning, lifts and more. Please let your manager know that you are interested in working during the week of 12/19-25 (our work week starts on the 19th where other Vail resorts start on the 18th). Starting 12/26, is our busy holiday period and many of our programs are near sold out. Please adhere to the calendar and communicate with your department if you can add days during the busy holiday period.
· GLINT Seasonal Staff Survey. All seasonal staff have been emailed a GLINT survey and it is also located in your Epic Employee notices when you sign in. The survey has been extended until this Friday hoping to capture more information. If you have not completed the survey yet…please, please do it. It is 100% anonymous-I promise. You have a chance to tell Mount Snow/Vail what we do well and what we can do better. It’s your voice and it is heard. Please take 5 minutes to fill out this survey. J
· Street Team is excited to announce our International Employee Party scheduled for Monday, December 20th, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Sundance Base Lodge. There will be food, music, karaoke and opportunities to win raffle prizes. We’re looking forward to welcoming our international employees and welcome all Mount Snow staff that would like to attend this celebration. https://forms.office.com/r/Z8gJ0SamBh
· Employee $5.00 Meals are available at Market fresh, High Timber and the Summit Lodge. Employees may choose from: hamburger/cheeseburger, chili, soup of the day, grab/go Sandwich or salad. Please plan on picking up your meal at non-peak hours (before 11 and after 1) if possible.
· Safety: Please see the 2 attached documents. Both of these documents are educational documents to help you stay safe on the hill while skiing/riding. It’s a great read and to just bring to the fore front some tactics to be safe on the hill.
· Also attached is the Hello Fresh free meal for January 7th. You must RSVP by tomorrow, 12/16 to participate in this program.
· Tubing is “on hold” until at least MLK weekend. This way the mountain can focus on making snow for the skiers/riders. Please let your guests know if they ask.
· STAFF CHECK OUT: At the end of each workday, staff need to check out with the on-hill supervisor. You will also need to do an electronic timesheet. This timesheet will ask for all of the jobs you did throughout the day. Please fill it out honestly (with time donning/doffing equipment) and walking to/from the locker room. If staff are skiing/riding before or after work, they should not put in for donning or doffing or walking. Please read the directions carefully. QR codes will be posted in staff-only areas and is attached to this email. I am also providing this link that you may save on your phone: https://bit.ly/SRSCheckOut There will eventually be a computer set up in the Clubhouse for those who would rather use a computer or who do not have a smartphone ---it is not set up yet. If you need assistance doing this, please ask your supervisor, manager or Shannon McAvoy and they can help you. This MUST be done immediately after each workday and will help ensure staff gets paid properly each day.
· STAFF HEALTH SCREENING: All staff MUST do their health screening on Epic Employee prior to coming to work. Once you successfully complete it, it will flash a green badge. Take a screenshot and show your supervisor as you arrive at lineup. You must ONLY do the health screening on the days you are working. If you do not pass the health screening, please do not show up to work and email your manager/supervisor. Please DO NOT show up if you are sick or have been exposed to COVID. Thank you for taking this seriously and for being safe.
· LIFT TRAINING: Please be sure to do your online LIFT training. This is paid training. For those who have not done it, I get an email reminding me…please do your training at your earliest convenience. If you are having issues getting your LIFT training, contact Shannon McAvoy and she can help you navigate the system.
· PASS REFUNDS for those who purchased an Epic Pass. I was recently told that you may bring the pass you are seeking a refund for (if you purchased one and no longer need it) to a Clock Tower ticket window after 10am (when it is not busy please). They should be able to issue the refund on the spot for you.
· GEAR CHECKS: We do have new stickers. You may take your gear to the Discovery Rental shop for inspection IF was inspected last season. IF you have NEW ski gear, you can get a coupon from Matt (Disco Rentals) or Toby (Cape House) to get it checked at the Grind. If you have had your gear checked by an independent shop, you can show your completed inspection to Matt to get your sticker placed on your gear. Please remember, you have 30 days to get this done….it does not need to be done on your first day.
· PARKING/TRANSPORTATION: Parking will be a premium as it is every year and PAID parking begins this weekend. Lots B, C, D & E are free EXCEPT Holiday and Weekends. Staff can park in D lots (including Tiered) and E lots for free holidays/weekends. Lot A and Upper lot in Carinthia are always paid parking. We do expect lift #4 (Covered Bridge – Tubing Carpet) to be operating. The MOOer is a great alternative. You can download the “Transit” App and know exactly where the bus is and when to expect it. Today was the deadline to give Shannon your license plate number to park in the far area of the “C” lot. If you did not get her your plate/car information, you are too late. Please plan on parking in the tiered and D lot for the season. It’s a refreshing walk early in the morning.

A Message from Mo…
Well…it’s happening! We are officially opening private & group lessons starting this Friday. We will only have intermediate & advanced lessons on Friday but anticipate opening the Discovery Shuttle area for all lesson levels this Saturday. I am pretty excited to see the team back in action on the hill. I have a few announcements this week. Please read through this email carefully, so that it can answer any questions you may have and will add clarity to the start of our season.
STAFF CHECK OUT *NEW*
At the end of each workday, staff need to check out with the on-hill supervisor. I am also providing this link that you may save on your phone: https://bit.ly/SRSCheckOut
There will eventually be a computer set up in the Clubhouse for those who would rather use a computer or who do not have a smartphone ---it is not set up yet. If you need assistance doing this, please ask your supervisor, manager or Shannon McAvoy and they can help you. This MUST be done immediately after each workday and will help ensure staff gets paid properly each day.
STAFF HEALTH SCREENING
All staff MUST do their health screening on Epic Employee prior to coming to work.
GUEST HEALTH SCREENING
The attached QR code is for guests to do their health screening before participating in our lessons (group and privates). We will have this QR code posted around the Discovery Center but if the guest happens to miss it, feel free to keep a screenshot of this on your phone and the guest can scan it off of your phone to complete their family health screening. The way it works is the customer holds their camera on their phone up to it and as it recognizes it, they press the box on their phone that says “go to app.smartsheet.com” and they should say yes. It can also be done through their internet browser. Then they can fill out the family health screen. It takes about 1 minute to complete and submit.
LIFT TRAINING
Please be sure to do your online LIFT training. It is 2 hours and 1 minute and needs to get done. This is paid training. For those who have not done it, I get an email reminding me…please do your training at your earliest convenience. If you are having issues getting your LIFT training, contact Shannon McAvoy and she can help you navigate the system.
LOCKERS – UNIFORMS - NAMETAGS
If you need a uniform or name tag, please contact Shannon McAvoy: Shannon.D.McAvoyMann@vailresorts.com . Do this ahead of time, so she can have everything done for when you arrive. Once you order your uniform/tags, she will have them available in the Club House (old Snowmobile room). We do have new black resort name tags that slide in the uniform jacket. Please pick yours up in the Clubhouse prior to your first day of work. A reminder that the locker rooms are employee only and your family and/or friends are restricted from entering and the code is private to staff only. If you need/want a locker please contact Shannon. **LOCKER CODE IS 1913**
Returning staff, your lockers have a ticket-wicket on them to designate them as assigned. All other un-wicketed lockers can be chosen by staff that want them – LET SHANNON KNOW THE NUMBER YOU CHOOSE so our information is correct and up to date.
STAFF PASSES/DEPENDENT PASSES
If you did all of your paperwork & release forms, your pass from last season should work. You should get it checked at a lift or ticket window to make sure before showing up to line up. We will have a scanner at the line-ups, you can check it there as well. If you lost your pass and need a new one, let Shannon know and she will get one printed for you and you may pick it up from her. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO A TICKET WINDOW. We are trying not to clog up the ticket windows. Dependent passes are the same but you will need to pay (if you are part-time) $40 per dependent pass. You may do this in the Discovery Center when it is not congested with guests. You may also pick up your ticket vouchers from a ticket desk in Discovery when it is quiet.
SEASON OPENING RESTRICTIONS
Most likely there will be an employee and dependent ski/ride restrictions in place on Friday 11/26 with limited terrain. Any employee/dependent that is not skiing/riding as a function of their job will not be able to get on a lift.
Uphill ski traffic is restricted due to equipment on the mountain and snowmaking.
STAFF PASS REFUNDS
For employees that purchased season passes prior to being hired, the process for pass refunds can be found here: PASS REFUND
SCHEDULE CHANGES
Schedule Changes must be made with your CORE AREA ONLY. Please refrain from sending me your changes. Any questions you have may be directed to your core area managers or supervisors.
GEAR CHECKS:
We do have new stickers. You may take your gear to the Discovery Rental shop for inspection IF was inspected last season. IF you have NEW ski gear, you can get a coupon from Matt (Disco Rentals) or Toby (Cape House) to get it checked at the Grind. Discovery Center Flow: The Discovery Center IS open and everyone must wear a mask (guests and staff) in guest-facing areas. All group lesson guests will pick up their lesson tickets in the bottom level and get rentals on the 2nd level. Once they have their tickets and rentals (if needed), they will show up to line up for their lesson. ALL guests need a lift ticket/pass during the lesson. Bathrooms in the Discovery Center will be open for guest use. The 3rd floor Clubhouse is “employee only” and you do not need to be masked. We are allowing staff to eat lunch/break in that room again this season. There is a fridge and microwave to use. We ask that you clean up after yourself and disinfect after each use.
MASKING vs. UNMASKING
You MUST be masked inside all guest-facing areas. You do not need to wear a mask in employee-only areas, such as locker rooms and the 3rd floor of the Discovery Center. Please feel free to give gentle reminders to guests not wearing a mask indoors. No masks required in lift lines or anywhere outside.
KIDS MEALS/BREAKS
If you have a full day kids lesson, they will ALL be eating lunch in the 1st level of the Discovery Center midweek/non-holiday (Doug & Melissa will let you know about this weekend as business levels are low). Weekends and Holidays, Snow Camp will eat in Snow Camp and Mt. Camp will eat in the MBL Mountain Camp lunchroom.
• Kids who are 12+ MUST be vaccinated to participate in lunch/snacks
• If you have a non-vaccinated 12+ year old, please let the parent know that they will need to be picked up for lunch and they may bring them back in the afternoon
• DO NOT take a group with a non-vaccinated 12+ year old in for a food break
• The vaccination status of the individual is private, there will be stickers on the tickets letting you know whether a 12+ year old child is vaccinated or not…please do not ask in public
• A SPACESHIP = non-vaccinated (no snack/no lunch)
• A FORK/KNIFE = vaccinated and ok to have snack/lunch
We are 100% trying to refrain from snacking again this season….please only if really needed. We will have hot chocolate and some snacks available but due to COVID are trying to curb unmasked individuals in the Discovery Center.
PARKING/TRANSPORTATION
Parking will be a premium as it is every year.
Attached is a “How To” on this FREE service. You can download the “Transit” App and know exactly where the bus is and when to expect it.
• App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/transit-subway-bus-times/id498151501
• Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thetransitapp.droid
Thank you for all that you do and I look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Hello Ski & Ride School Staff,
I hope everyone is well. We are anxiously awaiting Mother Nature to decide when winter can start. If anyone has any connections….please feel free to ask her to start blowing cold temps our way J.
I have a few announcements as we get ready to open.
1. We most likely not be open until sometime next week (this is unofficial), but please continue to check the website for updates. Wednesday is supposed to be the official first day of Group and Private lessons for the Ski & Ride School. If you are scheduled, please plan on coming in if we are open.
2. The Main Base Locker Room is ready and has a new combination lock. The combination is 1913. Please do not share this with friends or family. The number may change throughout the season, so pay attention to future emails. The Discovery FT Kids locker room is the same as it’s been. I mentioned the locker room will be ready and open on the 19th---when we thought we were opening the 19th. Most likely, the Main Base Lodge will be locked until we open for the season, so please do not rush to put your stuff in this weekend. Shannon is the locker room guru, so you may contact Shannon for a locker assignment (we are hoping everyone just takes the same locker they had last season). Shannon.D.Mcavoymann@vailresorts.com
3. Disco will be open this weekend. Maureen will be in from 8:30-12 doing I9’s for new hires and Shannon will be here from 1pm-3pm handing out uniforms/lockers.
4. Please continue to do the LIFT training. I believe there is a total of 2 hours and 1 minute for rehire staff. We do need to get that completed and would like it to be done before you start (one less thing for us to track). If you have not received any on-line LIFT training, please contact Admin Assistant, Shannon McAvoy. Shannon.D.Mcavoymann@vailresorts.com
5. Today is payday for those who attended the refresher and did some LIFT training. Most everyone has direct deposit. If you do not, your check is with your manager. I urge everyone to sign up for direct deposit, so that your money will go directly into your bank account.
6. Ski/Board gear check. Toby Burrows and his team of gear checkers will be doing physical checks on gear and issuing new stickers this season in the Discovery rental shop once we open for the season. Please remember, you have 30 days to get this done. Although, I would like it done sooner rather than later, if there is a line…feel free to bring it later. Toby will let us know exact times that this will be happening. If you have new SKI gear, you will need to have your gear checked at the Grind (by getting a coupon from your manager or Toby) or your favorite shop (you would need to pay for this). Once you produce the receipt, you will get a sticker on that gear. Snowboard gear will be checked by our team whether it is old or new. The GRIND will open the first day the resort is open---remember, you have 30 days.
7. Passes. REHIRES from 2020-21: If you did all of your release forms, background check and set up your Epic account….your pass from last season should be re-activated. I would have it scanned before showing up to line-up to make sure. NEW to Vail Rehires: You will need a pass. Please let Shannon know and she will get them printed for you. Once Disco tickets opens, you may pay for/pick up dependent passes.
8. Staff get discounted/comp tickets. You may show up at a ticket window in Disco once we open to pick those up and ask them to be print. It depends on FT or PT status & years of service to determine how many you get. (Temps/Holiday help do not get them).
9. Vaccination cards should be uploaded. Thank you to everyone who was diligent on getting this done. I know there were some hurdles—but thank you nonetheless for getting this done. If you have not uploaded these cards----there are only a few of you, the network will “pause” your employment tonight at midnight.
10. Face Masks: Once we open for the season, you will not be required to wear face masks in “EMPLOYEE” only areas but will need to wear them indoors in public areas. So, locker rooms and 3rd floor of the Discovery Center are staff mask free zones. We’ve set up the 3rd floor in Discovery as a staff lunch/break area again this season. Feel free to bring your lunch and eat there to avoid the Main Base Lodge.
11. Quick Serve Restaurants and eating. ALL people wanting to eat in the quick food outlets, will need to show a vax card and photo ID with name that matches vax card. At this time, your pass may not get you into the lodge to eat. Reservations will continue in these places again this season for guests and staff. The Coop (formally Reubens) on the Cuzzins deck will have a window for grab & go food.
12. Health Check: Every day that you come to Mount Snow TO WORK, you will need to do the Heath check in your Epic Employee app and show your supervisor/manager the green badge. Please do not forget. Certainly, let your manager/supervisor know if you are sick and do not come to work.
13. If you need to change a schedule or need general information, please contact your core area manager or supervisor. Of course, my door is always open if you need anything. I would like to stream-line the process of which information is exchanged in SRS, so that you can get information in a timely manner.
a. Shannon McAvoy, Admin Assistant (log in, vac card issues, youth paperwork, uniforms, lockers and more!): Shannon.D.Mcavoymann@vailresorts.com
b. Dave Isaacs, Adults/Privates: David.Isaacs@vailresorts.com
c. Doug Kaufman, Mt. Camp/Ride: Douglas.S.Kaufman@vailresorts.com
d. Melissa Evans, Cub & Snow Camp/Ride: Melissa.S.Evans@vailresorts.com
14. Lastly, since our department is one of the largest at the resort…we have the ability to have a positive or negative impact on other resort staff and guests. I ask that you please be pleasant and kind to all staff members (even if it’s a tough situation). If you are having a problem with your pass, comp tickets, food discount, ticket scan process or person, please let your manager know the name of person, location and problem and they will take care of it on the back end. Please, please, please help me with this. J
Thank you everyone! I look forward to your seeing your smiling faces soon!

Hello SRS Staff,
· I’ve pasted the email inviting you to the SRS refresher on Saturday below my signature (with the link to join the meeting). If you cannot make it, please let me know (with a date) when you can watch the recorded version. I need to make sure you get paid for attending. See below for link to join the meeting on Saturday.
· People who did NOT work last season, need to log into your new Epic Employee account to set it up and to fill out Section 1 of the I9 before coming in to see me on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning with your ID’s (see more info below). If you worked last season----you are all set with your I9. It’s that easy!
· The managers are currently on campus and working to prepare for opening day. If you have any scheduling changes or questions, please reach out to them directly.
o Doug Kaufman (Mountain Camp/Ride): douglas.s.kaufman@vailresorts.com or 802-464-1100 ext. 4316
o Melissa Evans (Cub Camp & Snow Camp/Ride): melissa.s.evans@vailresorts.com or 802-464-7088
o Dave Isaacs (Adults & Privates): david.isaacs@vailresorts.com or 802-464-4294
§ If you have a guest who wants to request you for a private, fill out the google form on this link so we can book it: SRS Private Request
§ If you have any questions regarding privates---please direct them to Dave (instead of me).
· Shannon McAvoy is the new SRS Administrative Assistant—welcome Shannon! Her desk will be located in the snowmobile room where the purple “L” desk was. She is currently doing name tags, uniforms, Age 14-17 consent forms and other duties to help all of the managers. She recently sent out a google form requesting names/hometowns for your new nametag, press link to complete: https://bit.ly/msNameTag2. Please fill that out ASAP because everyone is getting a new name tag. Shannon’s contact information is: Shannon.d.mcavoymann@vailresorts.com or phone TBA.
· There are a few people who have not completed the hiring process. Please check your email/junk bin to make sure. I will send another email out either later today, tomorrow or Friday with folks who are not yet officially hired—you would know because you did not get a notification to set up your account. If this is the case, you will NOT be able to attend on Saturday. No worries, we will have you watch the recorded version at another time when you are officially hired. So, if you don’t hear from me….you may attend on Saturday. J
· If people are having a hard time logging into their Epic Employee account, try using the default password to reset your password: P#wdmmddyy (monthdayyear of your birthday). Unfortunately, if this does not work, you need to call IT. 970-SKI HELP or 970-754-4357. I find it best to call right at 9am before Colorado is working for less hold times.
· Program Supervisors start on Monday, 11/8.
Thank you everyone and I look forward to seeing your names pop up during the e-refresher on Saturday.

Hello Ski & Ride School Staff,
I just wanted to touch base with some important hiring information. Now that foliage is on its way out and stick season is on its way in….I am getting excited for winter and snow! Please read the bullets below, so that you are “in the know” as we get closer to the season.
· SRS Winter Refresher: Saturday, November 6th from 9am to 12pm. It will be virtual again this season, so you can enjoy it from your couch at home. I will miss the hello’s and hugs…but this is the easiest & safest way for us to start this season right now. We will be taking attendance during the video training and will also be sending out a verification email afterwards, so that people can sign/attest that they attended training. I will be recording this training, so let me know if you are unable to attend and I can walk you through getting the training done. I will send a link to this training just a couple of days prior—so it does not get lost in your inbox. We will use Microsoft Teams as a platform for this training, so please plan to jump on early to make sure you can get in.
· For staff who missed 2020-21 and are returning this season. Assuming you will be watching the winter refresher on 11/6, you will need to show your documents for I9 verification within 24 hours. I will have office hours for those who need to show their original ID’s for the I9. You MUST complete section 1 of the I9 prior to coming to my office. You may find this in your Epic App. If you cannot show your ID’s within the 24 hours, you may not attend the Nov 6th refresher. We will need to pick another date for you to get trained (probably during New Hire 11/27 or 12/4 in person).
o Saturday, 11/6 from 1-4pm—My office in Disco
o Sunday, 11/7 from 9-12pm—My office in Disco
· I plan on “un-pausing” rehires starting on 10/23 to 10/25. Once I do this, you will be sent some training videos to watch (and will get paid). The first one to complete is: “My Day 1” and is about 45 minutes long---please plan on doing this before our refresher if you can. The others may be done within the next couple of weeks and add up to about 2 hours in total. They are “Epic Service”-1 hour, “Safety Quiz” for about 24 minutes, “Slope Safety” about 10 minutes and “New Employee Orientation” for about 30 minutes (not sure this is for rehires).
· Uniforms: We do have some new uniforms this season. If you need to upgrade yours, you may come in during the office hours above to do so. We will also put a few days aside before November 19th for people to trade/pick up uniforms. We are continuing with the North Face blue jackets and plain black pants this season. New Helly Hanson uniforms will come our way sometime within the next 3 seasons - I am not sure the details/colors, etc..
· Lockers: Most likely, people will have the same locker as last season. More to come on giving out lockers before we open.
· All staff are required to be vaccinated for COVID-19. We will launch the process for submitting your proof of vaccination through Direct Connect soon. Once the technology goes live, you will receive an email with specific guidance on how to submit your official vaccination card in advance of our Nov.15 deadline. Once the vaccine mandate is in effect, we will adjust our face-covering requirements. Face coverings will no longer be required in indoor employee-only spaces unless required by federal, state or local laws and regulations. They will continue to be required in indoor spaces frequented by our guests or the general public. updated face-covering FAQS here .
· Everyone should have received an email to fill out a background check. That does need to be completed before our November 6th rehire. If you are having trouble, please call HR/Direct Connect at 303-404-1900 or submit a case through your Epic Employee App.
· Ski/Ride instructors or coaches may NOT work at both Mount Snow and The Hermitage this winter in the same capacity. What does this mean?
o A person can’t be an instructor or coach at both resorts this winter.
o A person can teach skiing/riding at one resort and work in a non-guest facing role at the other resort (i.e. Lifts, Housekeeping, F&B, etc.).
· Pay Rates: People have been asking about pay rates for this season. I am very excited for these new rates and I hope that you are too! Here they are:
o Non-Certified: $15.00/hour
o PSIA/AASI/USSA Level 1 Cert: $16.00/hour
o PSIA/AASI/USSA Level 2 Cert: $18.00/hour
o PSIA/AASI/USSA Level 3 Cert: $22.00/hour
o PSIA/AASI/USSA Ed Staff, Examiners and National Team members may contact me individually for their rate.
§ We are no longer recognizing the internal PDP certification from the Peak Resort days.
· We plan on opening Mount Snow on November 19th (if Mother Nature cooperates). We will do pre-season private lessons with a small group of full-time and some part-time staff from 11/19-11/23. Group lessons start on 11/24 for the season (the day before Thanksgiving).
· We are still hiring for many key roles. Please let your friends/family know---we are a fun group to work with J.

Greetings, Team!
The leaves are changing, it’s cold in the mornings, and dark by 7pm. That must mean that it’s October and we’re one month away from opening for winter operations! Guests will be skiing and snowboarding down our trails before we know it! The 23rd Annual Mount Snow Oktoberfest is just around the corner and we’re hoping to repeat our fantastic Brewers Festival performance and deliver a terrific experience for our guests. After that, it’s full steam ahead towards opening day on Nov. 19. We’ll be one of the first resorts to open in the East thanks to the most powerful snowmaking system in the East!
I am excited to tell everyone that Toby Burros has accepted the Mount Snow Ski & Ride School Training Manager position. He started this week and has been hard at work learning all of the systems. He will be communicating with the New Hire staff in the near future and will be helping our department by offering the same great training that we are known for. Toby has been on staff for the last few years as a trainer and an instructor in the Mt. Ride program. He is also a AASI-E Examiner. Please help me in welcoming Toby to the management team! If you need to contact Toby, he can be reached at: Toby.L.Burrows@vailresorts.com or 802-464-1100 ext. 4837. His office is located on the 2nd floor in the Cape House. For Rehire staff, please remember, we are doing our training on November 6th from 9am-12pm. This will be virtual again this season. New Hires will receive an email from Toby soon regarding sign-ups for New Hire Training (NHP). I am so excited for the season to start, to see everyone and to meet all of the new staff. Other SRS news regarding working at Mount Snow & The Hermitage Club: Instructors/Coaches can work both at Mount Snow and the Hermitage this winter but not in the same capacity. A person cannot be an instructor/coach at both resorts. A person can teach skiing/riding at one resort and work in a non-guest facing role at the other resort (ie: Lifts, housekeeping, F&B, etc.). Please let me know if this impacts anyone.
Have you heard that we’re getting two new chairlifts at Mount Snow for the 22-23 winter and beyond? This is an historic investment into the guest experience here at Mount Snow and at other Vail Resorts properties.
In September, we announced the largest single-year investment into the mountain experience we’ve ever made. Nineteen new lifts are coming to 14 resorts in time for the 2022-23 North American ski and ride season. The projects have been announced as part of Epic Lift Upgrade, a new initiative to deliver game-changing lift projects that will significantly enhance the guest experience and make getting on and around our mountains easier, faster and more enjoyable. With this latest capital plan, Vail Resorts’ total investment into the guest experience over 15 years is expected to reach $2.2 billion.
Read more about the announcement here and explore the new projects at snow.com/EpicLiftUpgrade.
Make sure you know the details about being vaccinated. All Vail Resorts employees will need to be vaccinated this winter.
The last 18 months have tested us all and we are ready to put the pandemic behind us and move forward. However, with the recent surge in the Delta variant and the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, we will once again need to do our part this season to protect everyone’s health. We believe that COVID-19 vaccination is the way to end this pandemic, and the best way to keep our employees, guests and communities safe. As such, we are taking the necessary steps to comply with the recent rules announced under the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration, as we believe this is the right thing to do. As of Nov. 15, 2021, Vail Resorts will be requiring all employees across North America to be vaccinated for COVID-19. For details please see the FAQs here.
We are also announcing our winter operating plans, including that our guests will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to dine at our indoor, on-mountain, quick-service restaurants as well as continue wearing face coverings while in all our indoor spaces (other than while eating or drinking).
Be Safe is a core value of our company, and is a key driver of every decision we make. With safety as our top priority, we have a responsibility to ensure we are taking every precaution to provide a safe environment for our employees and guests. We appreciate your cooperation and support in taking action in a timely way so that we can get off to a successful start of the winter season.
Mount Snow is getting Epic Mix!
If you’ve never experienced Epic Mix, be sure to check out the details here. Work crews have been busy all summer laying the infrastructure to have Epic Mix kiosks live and working for the 21-22 winter season! Make sure to download the app and get out on the mountain!

Hello Mount Snow SRS Staff,
The leaves are changing and harvest time is here. This is a fun time of year between summer and “stick season”. The excitement is definitely in the air as the resort tests snowmaking systems and inspects chairlifts---just about a month and a half until we are sliding. I am hoping that everyone is getting fresh apples picked, enjoying pumpkin spice drinks and some fall festivals!
I have a few announcements today---
1. Rob Katz just announced that as of November 15, 2021, Vail Resorts will be requiring all employees across North America to be vaccinated for COVID-19. I’ve included an FAQ sheet for those who have questions about this mandate. Please do not send me vaccination cards….I have not received information on showing proof of vaccination yet. More information to come as we get closer to the season.
2. Our REHIRE meeting is virtual this season. It will be Saturday, November 6th from 9am-12pm. You can find a cozy place at home and enjoy hearing about the new happenings at the mountain this year along with some new safety initiatives for SRS. As we get closer, I will send you a link for this meeting.
a. For folks who did not work last season---you will need to do your I9 within 24 hours of the new hire training—this only takes 15 minutes but needs to be in person with original documents. Visit this site to see what documents are acceptable: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents . A current passport is the easiest document but check the link to see what other documents work. I will be available to check I9’s during the following days/times:
i. Saturday, 11/6 from 1-4pm in my office
ii. Sunday, 11/7 from 9-12pm in my office
3. Uniforms: Many people still have their uniforms, but I do have 100 new uniforms that arrived late last season. If you would like to upgrade your uniform or need a uniform, we can do it at the times listed above. All Full-timers should exchange out their uniforms. But, it can also be done at a later date---don’t sweat about it getting done this early if it’s not convenient for you.
4. Octoberfest help is needed. If you are interested in working, please press on the employment/application link below. You would need to get hired in Food & Beverage to work. It is a process, so takes about a week to get you on-boarded. https://career8.successfactors.com/sfcareer/jobreqcareerpvt?jobId=336912&company=Vail&st=511D16105C14729CF0551E22C86303CCBB40D003
5. I would like to introduce Dave Isaacs. Dave is the new Adult/Privates Program Manager. He will start work around October 24th and hit the ground running.
a. Dave is excited to be the new Adult Program Manager at Mount Snow. During his nine years in the industry, he has worked the frontlines as part time instructor, full time instructor, staff trainer, and line supervisor at Liberty Mountain Resort and part time instructor at Smuggler’s Notch. He is currently a Level 2 snowboarder, FS1, CS1, AIARE 1, and sits on the PSIA-AASI Eastern Board of Directors. His background in event production shaped his managerial philosophy: to empower employees and develop leadership through example. When Dave’s not working, he enjoys playing drums, rugby, mountain biking, and Carinthia.

8. New this season for request private lessons (not all but if you want to ensure you get booked—it’s a good idea to use this tool)----I’ve put together a link for folks communicating with guests for request private lessons. Last year, CB & Leslie used a paper form to help people organize their requests. Instead of paper, we are following one of our values-“Do Good” and cutting down on paper. If you have guests who want to book you for a private lesson---and if I have your schedule, they can book you now. Press on the link and check it out---or to get yourself booked with your guest early. Please save this link for future bookings as well: SRS Private Request
